The 18th-ranked Ole Miss Rebels welcome the
Arkansas Razorbacks to Oxford this evening for what figures to be a
competitive SEC contest. The game was originally scheduled for yesterday, but
was moved due to inclement weather.
On Thursday, Arkansas halted a two-game skid with a 67-62 victory over
Mississippi State. The Razorbacks are now 9-11 overall, including 2-3 in
league action. They have only played three true road games this season, and
all three have resulted in defeat.
Ole Miss has recorded three consecutive victories to move to 16-4 overall and
4-2 in conference. On Thursday, the Rebels played well at the offensive end in
an 84-74 victory over Auburn. There is reason for confidence tonight, as Ole
Miss is 9-1 at home this season.
Arkansas owns a 40-24 series lead over Ole Miss, but the Rebels have won the
last three meetings.
Courtney Fortson missed the first 14 games of the season for Arkansas, but he
has made an immediate impact since returning. In the six games Fortson has
played, he is averaging 20.2 ppg and 6.6 apg. Rotnei Clarke is netting 17.4
ppg on 46.9 percent shooting from three-point range, and Marshawn Powell
contributes 15.1 ppg and 6.9 rpg. Rounding out a foursome of double-digit
scorers for the Hogs is Mike Washington with his 12.8 ppg. Through 20 games,
Arkansas is scoring 74.9 ppg while allowing 73.6 ppg. In the much-needed
victory over Mississippi State on Thursday, Fortson exploded for 35 points on
9-of-17 shooting from the floor and 14-of-18 from the foul line. Stef Welsh
added 12 points off the bench for the Razorbacks, who connected on only 36.5
of their field goal attempts. Fortunately, they limited the Bulldogs to 31.3
percent shooting.
Ole Miss is generating 81.3 ppg through 20 games, and the club is holding
opponents to 68.8 ppg on 39.9 percent shooting from the floor. Chris Warren is
netting 16.7 ppg to pace the Rebels, and he has dished out 69 assists while
knocking down 40.8 percent of his three-point attempts. Terrico White checks
in with 15.4 ppg, and Eniel Polynice provides 10.4 ppg and 83 assists. Like
Arkansas, Ole Miss has four double-digit scorers in the fold, and Zach Graham
rounds out the Rebel group with 10.2 ppg. On Thursday, Warren scored 20 points
and handed out five assists in leading the Rebels past Auburn. White tallied
19 points, and Polynice contributed 14 points and five assists. Ole Miss
connected on 56.7 percent of its field goal attempts in that tilt while
limiting the Tigers to 36.5 percent shooting.
