I-55 Southbound Reopens After Morning Shut Down

I-55 Southbound lanes are now back Open to traffic. The closure was due to an overturned 18-wheeler this morning between Lakeland Drive and Woodrow Wilson near the Lakeland Drive overpass.

The accident shut down the interstate for the majority of the morning causing several traffic problems around the Lakeland Drive area.

M-DOT says the 18-wheeler overturned on I-55 south of the Lakeland Drive overpass spilling fuel onto the interstate.

MDOT personnel and the Department of Environmental Quality were on the scene at to help clean up the area.

Traffic was diverted onto other roads during the morning commute.
