Two Forest Hill High School students are in police custody Tuesday after JPS officials found a gun and drugs in their possession on campus.

Jackson police spokesperson Officer Joseph Daughtry say the 14-year old female student and 16-year old male student were isolated and searched by school administrators Monday after they received a tip that a weapon was in the female student's backpack.  During the search, officials found a loaded small caliber handgun.  A bag of marijuana was also found in the crotch of the male student.

Both students have been charged with possession of a firearm on school property.  The male student is also charged with possession of marijuana on school property.  The names and ages of the students have not been released because they are both juveniles.

Daughtry credits both Forest Hill and the school district for their swift action in handling the incident.  The Jackson Public Schools District has not released what disciplinary action will be taken.  An investigation is underway.
