The first day of class is less than a month away for a lot of school districts.
School leaders statewide are writing new school rules that deal with bullying.
State lawmakers made it mandatory for all school districts to adopt a bullying policy to go into effect this upcoming school year. It's a way to prevent a school bus incident that made national headlines from happening again.
The video was seen all over the country.
A 14-year-old Yazoo County girl pulls a gun out of her backpack. Another student on the bus wrestles with the girl to get gun out of her hand.
It was a shock to Yazoo County school officials.
The girl said she was being bullied.
School officials say they never knew of such bullying.
Starting this year, all districts have to have a policy in place that addresses bullying.
Yazoo County Schools curriculum coordinator Angela Hudson says school teachers and administrators will undergo training sessions to recognize bullying.
Students can report such activity.
Hudson says there will be zero tolerance.
"We're not gonna tolerate bullying or harassing and we plan to take immediate action when it's reported and plan to do something immediately about it," said Hudson.
